“In general, the role of dams and of course of Enguri HPP in holding back major floods is very important. I have worked here for 45 years and I remember catastrophic floods. For example, in October 2016 the inflow was 780 cubic metres per second for about 12 hours. That would of course have caused major flooding. But of those 780 cubic metres we released only 300 into the tailwater. As a result, no one noticed the event. We have had even larger floods,” said Levan Mebonia, chairman of the Board of Directors of Enguri HPP, in an interview with Business Rustavi 2.
