Austrian specialists will work on introducing digital management at Enguri HPP — www.imedinews.ge

29 Mar 2023 The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, met representatives of the Austrian company Verbund.

The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, met representatives of the Austrian company Verbund, who are in Georgia to introduce digital management at Enguri HPP.

According to the Ministry of Economy, it was noted at the meeting that the Austrians are carrying out the project to move Enguri HPP to digital management in cooperation with the Georgian company UGT. The project is currently at its first stage, which involves an in-depth analysis of the existing situation and the preparation of the terms of reference needed for the next stage.

According to First Deputy Minister Romeo Mikautadze, moving the country’s largest hydropower plant, Enguri HPP, to digital management is of the utmost importance for its more efficient, safe, responsive and sustainable operation. According to Romeo Mikautadze, by the time the energy exchange opens, the shortcomings and risks associated with human factors will have been reduced to a minimum. “Moreover, in Georgia this will set a precedent for introducing digital management at hydropower plants. The digital management project is part of the short-term strategic plan of Enguri HPP,” said the First Deputy Minister.

It should be noted that in December 2022 a tender was announced for moving Enguri HPP to digital management. The initiative comprises three stages: 1. an audit and analysis of the existing situation and the definition of the technical parameters that are essential for the software; 2. the procurement of the software together with the corresponding equipment; and 3. the implementation and introduction of digital management — states the information released by the Ministry of Economy.
